Gemini in Google Workspace adds AI to the email, documents and collaboration tools many businesses already use. Gmail can summarise threads, find details and draft replies. On editions with broader AI access, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Meet and Chat add assistance in their own work surfaces. The Workspace subscription also includes business email, storage and administration; this offer differs from a personal Gemini subscription.
Gemini in Docs can create structured drafts using permitted information from Drive, Gmail and Chat, then adjust formatting and writing style. Sheets adds natural-language help for building spreadsheets, populating tables and working with data. Generated content remains part of an editable document or spreadsheet, making it possible to refine the result with colleagues.
Meet combines video meetings with edition-specific recording, captions and AI note-taking. Workspace AI also provides the Gemini app and source-grounded research tools, with basic or expanded access depending on the plan. A Starter account does not receive the same in-app features as Standard or Plus. Some new capabilities have separate rollout, language or feature limits.
Business data protections follow the qualifying Workspace edition and its administrative settings. Gemini retrieves information the user has permission to access; prompts and responses stay private to that user. Inserting generated text into a shared document changes its audience according to that document’s permissions. Conversation retention is controlled by the organisation, so business AI access does not mean that every interaction is immediately deleted.

Is Gemini included in Google Workspace?
Current Business plans include edition-specific Gemini features. Starter includes Gemini in Gmail and basic Gemini app access; Standard and Plus add broader assistance in Workspace apps and expanded access.
Is this the same as a personal Gemini subscription?
No. Google Workspace is a managed business subscription with email, storage and administrative controls. Personal Gemini subscriptions have different account, pricing and data terms.
Can I use Gemini in Docs and Sheets on Business Starter?
The current plan matrix excludes Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Meet from Starter’s broader in-app access. Standard and higher editions include those capabilities, subject to their feature limits.
Are annual-commitment plans paid upfront?
The current pricing page says the one-year-commitment plans are billed monthly. Their lower per-user monthly rates reflect the commitment, rather than a flexible month-to-month subscription.
Can Gemini access files I cannot open?
Google says Gemini uses the organisation’s existing access controls and only retrieves permitted Workspace content. Content inserted into a shared file is then governed by that file’s sharing permissions.
Does Google keep Workspace AI conversations?
Conversation history and retention depend on the product and administrator settings. Gemini in Workspace history can have retention periods or be kept indefinitely; the Gemini app has its own history controls. Business data protection is not a blanket zero-retention promise.
