Build visual stories with Google’s image and video models
Google Flow combines asset creation and filmmaking in one workspace. Text prompts can generate a new clip, reference images can guide its appearance, and first or last frames can establish a shot’s endpoints. The library keeps images and video together, so an image can become the starting point for a moving scene. Veo 3.1 and Gemini Omni Flash provide different generation options; selecting a model changes the controls, available duration and credit cost. Flow also incorporates image-generation capabilities previously offered through Whisk and ImageFX.
The scene tools bring individual shots together. Clips can be arranged, trimmed and previewed, with extension available for Veo-generated footage. Gemini Omni supports conversational changes to generated or uploaded video, but its upload and editing limits differ from the length of a newly generated clip. Flow Agent adds conversation-based assistance on a computer; the mobile app provides creation and a synchronised asset library. Desktop Chromium remains the recommended environment for the strongest editing features.
Current access includes a daily credit allowance, with additional monthly credits through Google AI subscriptions. Higher resolution also depends on the plan: Omni’s 720p generation is separate from paid 1080p upscaling and Ultra’s charged 4K upscaling. Generated outputs carry invisible SynthID identification, and visible-watermark requirements vary by country. Google’s product-improvement setting controls an important aspect of uploaded and generated content use; Flow is a cloud service, and enabling improvement can allow interactions and outputs to be reviewed and used for development.
Best for
- Creators generating cinematic shots from text and reference images
- Filmmakers assembling generated clips into scenes
- Google AI subscribers producing both image and video assets
Limitations
Flow requires an eligible age-verified account and supported region. Non-subscribers may lose video-generation access during peak hours. Credit costs are per generated output, so a request producing two clips can incur two charges. Daily/monthly included credits expire without rollover. Editing controls depend on the model, 4K is an Ultra upscale rather than native output, and improvement-enabled content may be reviewed or used to develop Google services.
