App generation with distinct web and Android paths
Build mode turns a brief into an editable application project. Web projects use React by default with a Node.js server, supporting multi-file changes through Antigravity Agent, annotation-based edits and npm packages. Developers can export source as a ZIP or use two-way GitHub sync for supported web projects.
The web runtime supports server-side secrets and can provision Firebase Firestore and Google Sign-In. Generated OAuth flows can connect Google Workspace APIs, subject to user permission and provider quotas. These integrations make web projects more than static mockups, but generated code and access settings still need developer review.
Android generation follows a separate, narrower model: Kotlin and Jetpack Compose in a single-activity, single-module phone or tablet project. It supports a cloud emulator, eligible WebUSB installation and Google Play internal testing. The current Android guide provides ZIP source export and excludes GitHub export, web server secrets, Firebase and Workspace integration. Java, XML, NDK, Wear OS and TV projects are outside its documented scope.
Web deployment can use standard Cloud Run with billing or an eligible Google Cloud Starter account. Cloud Starter allows up to two full-stack services in one region without a billing account, with account eligibility conditions; Workspace accounts and accounts with current or previous paid Cloud billing are excluded. Production Android store release remains a separate process.
AI generation and deployed application usage have distinct costs. Free API access applies only to eligible models within their limits. Higher tiers and advanced models require the appropriate billing setup. Shared or deployed apps use the owner’s API key and usage limits, so visitors can generate API costs on that account.
Best for
- Developers prototyping Gemini-powered web apps
- Teams extending generated projects with exported source
- Builders exploring native Android prototypes
Limitations
Web backend features do not transfer automatically to Android projects. Free model quotas, Cloud Starter eligibility and hosting costs are separate. Exported code, OAuth permissions and owner-key usage require review before production use.

What can Google AI Studio Build mode create?
It supports full-stack web applications and a separate native Android generation path. The two project types have different integrations and export options.
Can I export Google AI Studio source code?
Web projects support ZIP source export and two-way GitHub sync. The current Android guide supports ZIP export but excludes GitHub export.
Does Android generation include a Firebase backend?
The current Android guide excludes Firebase, Workspace and web server-secret integrations. Those capabilities belong to supported web projects.
Is Google AI Studio completely free?
Eligible model access has Free Tier quotas. Paid model usage, deployment resources and other services can create separate costs.
Who pays for API calls in a shared AI Studio app?
Shared and deployed apps use the owner’s API key and usage limits. Visitor activity can incur costs on that account.
