A voice platform for narration and interactive speech
ElevenLabs combines text-to-speech with a voice library, custom voices and audio production tools. It serves both creators making spoken content and developers integrating speech into an application. A narration project can start with a script and a selected voice, while Instant Voice Cloning offers a recognisable custom voice from short, consented recordings. Voice Design creates new voices from descriptions. Professional cloning adds longer training recordings and verification that the speaker is the voice owner.
Its current speech model, Eleven v4, supports over ninety languages and uses audio tags to direct delivery, such as whispering or laughing. Stability and Similarity are its two voice settings; Speed and Style sliders and SSML are unavailable in this model. Cross-language generation adopts the target language’s accent rather than carrying the reference accent into every language. Professional-clone support for v4 is still rolling out. These distinctions matter for multilingual narration and recurring character voices, where model changes can affect delivery.
Scribe provides a separate speech-to-text path for uploaded audio and video, with speaker labels and word timestamps. Its browser transcript editor supports text corrections, timing changes and subtitle exports. The speech API offers additional output formats for applications, including telephony audio. Free voice content has noncommercial terms; paid-created content can retain its commercial permission after cancellation. Voice models stay in the account rather than exporting as portable files. Data-use settings include an opt-out for new data, with different Enterprise defaults.

Limitations
Credits cover multiple products and consumption varies by model. Free-created voice output stays noncommercial after a later upgrade. Paid commercial permission excludes Beta Services and does not grant rights to third-party material. v4 has no SSML or Speed/Style sliders, and professional-clone support is rolling out. Voice clones cannot be exported as standalone models.
